4-H is the youth development component of Rutgers Cooperative Extension. 4-H uses a learn-by-doing approach to enable youth to become competent, caring citizens of the world. Dedicated adult volunteers provide leadership to 4-H clubs and activities alongside Rutgers faculty, staff, and most importantly our 4-H youth members. Camden County 4-H staff and volunteers work together to develop programs which will provide youngsters with opportunities for new experiences and a broader view of life.

The essence of the 4-H Youth Development Program is a model of hands-on, experiential learning occurring through a variety of delivery modes. Additionally, programs are focused on three key areas called Mission Mandates. Read on to learn more.
“I pledge my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service.”
4-H teaches youth about their rights and responsibilities as citizens, as well as how they can contribute to their own community. Empowering and engaging youth to take part in their community creates opportunities for leadership and personal development, as well as lifeskill development.
Science, Engineering and Technology (S.E.T.)
“I pledge my head to clearer thinking.”
4-H promotes increased literacy in these topics by focusing on programming that encompasses science, engineering, technology and applied math. Youth participate in programs that enhance their knowledge in an engaging, hands-on approach from learning about environmental issues to animal science and engineering.
“I pledge my health to better living for my club, my community, my country and my world.”
4-H promotes healthy living through good nutrition and physical activity, which lends itself to a more balanced life.
